Maybe we’re not seeing exact replicas of the hot trend from the 50’s, but variations of the circle skirt have definitely been popping up everywhere from the runway to edgy magazine spreads.

So what do these variations of the high waisted, flared skirt look like? Unlike most of the sketches below, the new look is shorter, fuller, and it doesn’t even have to be a skirt–it can be a dress too! It’s all about the baby doll silhouette!

My favorite so far is a dress from Miu Miu that’s been quite the little attention whore over the past month or so. If you didn’t see it on Kirsten Dunst in the artsy cirque du soleil esque Miu Miu campaign spread, you may have seen Amy Adams wearing it on the cover of Interview or even Kate Hudson for Elle Girl UK.

I was stoked when Topshop came out with this little look-a-like, but as it usually goes with Topshop, the skirt was sold out within minutes. I am actually trying to convince a girl in London who is selling this on ebay to ship to the states so I can bid on it. Wish me luck!

Miu Miu really seems to be ahead of the rest on this hot little look. Here’s Rachel Bilson in another fufu skirt from their Fall 2008 collection for her spread in the March ‘08 Nylon:

Crook the look: I went to Nordstrom to try and put something together as I desperately wanted to mimic the Miu Miu’s doll-like silhouettes, but to my surprise, they didn’t have any skirts!! For the time being, this little trench dress is the best I can do to pull off the look.

Here are a few other options I came up with, but I am still crossing my fingers the chick from ebay will cave and sell me the Topshop skirt:
