PostHeaderIcon Bobbie Thomas: Style Guide & Role Model

NBC’s “Today” show Style Editor and notorious fashion adviser, Bobbie Thomas, was in Seattle this week and I had the pleasure of sitting down with her for some fabulous girl talk. I’ve looked up to her for a few years now, but after witnessing her passion and intellect first hand, she immediately jumped up to hero status.

Her philosophy: “Style is about self expression. It’s the way we speak to the world without words.”

Okay…enough gushing. Now for the fun stuff!

In light of my plans to spend the weekend in Vegas with one of my best girlfriends Angie, I decided to ask Bobbie what beauty products she’d take with her on a Vegas vacay. Below are her top picks:

1. Venus Embrace: One of Bobbie’s favorite beauty tools, the first five blade razor for women gets all the grooves with its curve hugging design - even the knees! Bobbie recommends shaving everyday, even if you’re not prickly, because it helps exfoliate and remove dead skin.

2. Bliss Fat Girl Sleep: Not to be confused with its skin firming and moisturizing sister, Fat Girl Slim, Bliss’ Sleep version allows all the same benefits with no caffiene. Bobbie can’t stress enough the importance of beauty sleep.

3. Neutrogena Micro Mist Self-Tanner: The more horror stories we hear about tanning whether skin cancer or accelerating the aging process, the more sunless tanning products are becoming available. Neutrogena’s Micro Mist spray is affordable and goes on light, thin and even. Bobbie strongly advises exfoliating before and after applying all sunless tanners.

4. Spa Sister’s Polishing Towels: Bobbie lives by these towels. They are to be used for exfoliating before showering and applying sunless tanner and/or skin firming lotions. According to Bobbie, “This will not only prep your skin, but help you remove color as well. It’s important to not add self-tanner on top of your last application.”

5. Bliss Triple Oxygen Eye Mask: Perfect for Vegas, the Bliss instant energizing eye mask reduces circles and puffiness in only 15 minutes. For puffy eyes, Bobbie also suggests applying highlighter shine from the corner of the eye to the temple for a natural glow.

My convo with Bobbie went far beyond beauty products so I’ll try to include more tidbits in upcoming posts. In the meantime, be sure to watch her on the “Today” show and check out her style column.

Lastly, here are deets and pics for my outfit selection process. Rather than going too funky or extravagant, I tried to pick something representative of my personal style - skirt, tank and fun accessories.

Wearing:

  • Tank: Forever 21
  • Skirt: Bebe
  • Pumps: BCBGirls
  •  Necklaces: Belt borrowed from a dress, silver chain and Prismera

The necklaces are actually all three connected and were inspired by one of Bobbie’s DIYs. It’s pretty simple and I am posting on it soon…stay tuned!

PostHeaderIcon Clutch Look: Saturday Shopping Excursion

Last Saturday I decided to spend some quality time with Seattle’s latest shopping attraction, the new and very improved South Center mall. I picked up a few goodies from Forever 21 and a new bag from a mystery location. Can you ID it?

By the way, when I found out we were finally getting H&M in Seattle (South Center was the first of three locations), I fully expected to buy out the whole store. Lesson learned, H&M stands for “Hit & Miss,” and Saturday was definitely a ”miss” for me. Let’s hope for better luck next time.

Here are some pics of the outfit I wore on my outing. They are a little on the silly side, my boyfriend/photog kept making fun of me. :)

PostHeaderIcon Wardrobe Fix: My Top Is Too Big

In an ideal world, all of our clothes would fit perfectly, stores would always have the size we need in stock and weight fluctuation wouldn’t require budgeting for a new wardrobe.

Okay…back to reality. We’ve all got clothes in the back of our closets aren’t the right size. Luckily, there are lots of little tweaks that can be done to modify the fit and appearance. Below is an example of how I manipulated a fun top my boyfriend’s stylish lil sis bought me for my bday (it’s a little too big to wear as is).

First and foremost, I layered a tank underneath to help with the extra room up top and under my arms.

Solution 1: Tie a knot toward one side and tuck in the ends.

Solution 2: Belt it and create a draped look by tucking in extra fabric under the belt.

PostHeaderIcon Alert: eBay Hide & Chic…Designer Items For $1

I’m a little late in the game on eBay’s Hide & Chic promotion, which ends tonight at midnight PT, but couldn’t resist posting. I’ve been reading about it in the Purse Forum for the past day or so and am completely mystified by the process.

Throughout the day designer items are listed on eBay for $1 buy-it-now with free shipping. They include Jimmy Choo shoes, Ray-ban shades, Ferragamo belts, Kate Spade bags and Rock & Republic jeans, to name a few.

The trick to finding them is simple. Click here and keep refreshing until you see something show up. The hard part is being quick enough to be the first to purchase…so anyone with a slow connection is out of luck. Here’s an example of what is posted in one of the Hide & Chic items’ descriptions:

I’ve tried a couple of times and haven’t won anything yet, but best of luck to all those who succeed. I’ll leave you with a fair warning…even if you’re not really interested in the products, it’s kind of addicting…like a game. ;)

**Special thanks to all the tPF-ers who have been talking about this for days in the Deals & Steals thread which has accumulated over 2000 posts since Monday. Click here to read.
