What To Wear To A Fashion Show?
I was privileged to attend the fifth annual Fashion First (Seattle’s biggest runway show) a couple of days ago, and I walked away feeling quite impressed with the turnout.
My words alone won’t do it justice, so stay tuned for more photos. In the meantime, here are a few pics of what my gorgeous plus-one Angie and I wore to the show. Some people suggest wearing participating designers, but since this show was more boutique focused, we had a lot of flexibility as far as labels go.
I freaked out a little bit when deciding what to wear before realizing you can never go wrong with black and white. I then added a chunky necklace and my DIY Martin Margielas for a bit of personal flair. Angie went for a delicate, classic look donning a black and white BCBG dress with peep-toe pumps.

Wearing:
- Tank: Velvet
- Satin skirt: Bebe
- Sandals: DIY Martin Margiela
- Necklace: Forever 21
Just for fun, here’s a pic of Ang humoring me with the head down “Clutch 22″ pose.
For the Guys: Inspiration From Topman
I’m fashion-ated by Topman’s (Topshop’s male counterpart) new video showcasing their latest line of skate-inspired menswear. Not only do I have to share this with the wonderful guys who stop by here…but also with all of the ladies who help their boys shop…and with quirky girls like me who like to see chicks sporting mens clothing.
Click here to shop for the items shown in the video.
Alright guys…you know who you are…Peter, Tommy, Matt, Joe, Travis and Rickey, to name a few…don’t be shy. What do you guys think of this clip? I want to bring you more mens posts…so tell me what you like.
Spotted: Another Miu Miu SS08 Knock-Off
We can expect stores like Asos, Topshop and Forever 21 to knock off hot designer looks, but I never thought we’d see it among Project Runway hopefuls.
Season Five’s Suede, who I’ve been feeling indifferent about until now, totally mimmicked the popular short, full Miu Miu skirt from the SS08 collection. I’m surprised Michael Kors didn’t fall out of his chair!

In fact, his design looks more like the knock-offs than the original…which in my opinion is even worse. Who does he think he’s fooling?!

Don’t get me wrong, I own the Topshop version of this skirt…but isn’t Project Runway supposed to be about originality? Lucky for Suede, three of his competitors had worse designs saving him from landing in the bottom three…and from being called out as a copy cat.
Clutch 22 in Trend Central!
As a religious follower of Trend Central (if you don’t already subscribe, I highly recommend it), it pretty much made my entire year when I opened yesterday’s email newsletter and found a mention of Clutch 22 in an article about fashion websites.

They highlighted Reesycakes, one of my top sources for online shopping promo codes. It’s a great site because all the codes are user-generated. Click here to read the article and be sure to sign up for Trend Central’s daily newsletters!
Tangent: Some of my other favorite coupon code sites are the Purse Forum’s Deals & Steals thread and Gretchen’s Codes. Though I am definitely budget conscious, I hate the word coupon. I’m not so much a coupon clipper or bargain shopper, but I like to think of myself as a smart shopper. Knowing I can save $50 on a pair of designer jeans just as they hit retail shelves, has completely changed my buying nature from impulsive to patient. If there isn’t a code for that exact pair of $200 jeans, I’ll wait.
Let me know if you’re ever looking to buy something online with a code! I’d love to help.
Seafair: The Good, The Bad & The Tacky
After enjoying a long weekend of boating in the sun for Seafair, also referred to as Seattle’s very own Mardi Gras on the water, I want to share some of my take-aways from the adventure.
The Good:
Sun tans, beer cans, Blue Angels and friends…

Foam coolers, battle wounds, and Police boats (our tax dollars at work)…

We brought a foam cooler on the first day and this is what happened just as we were leaving the dock.
I don’t have any pics of our battle wounds, but we all had plenty of unidentified bruises.

While I’m thankful police boats were looking out for our safety, the abundance of them made me feel like I was constantly being watched/doing something wrong.
The Tacky:
Pasties, mullets, boats with stripper poles and clowns…

This clown was driving behind us on our way to a restaurant to cap off the end of Seafair weekend.
**Special thanks to friends who remembered their cameras and took great Seafair pics!
