DIY Feather Clips: Round Two
I had so much fun crafting feather hair clips a couple of weeks ago, I decided to create some more…only this time, they’re on steroids.
For my company holiday party last week (thanks to all those who voted on my outfits!), I made a funky red feather clip for Jess and deconstructed a gold, sparkly flower holiday decoration for myself (not a feather, but very festive).

Over the weekend I put these together and am sending them to a few special people as a thank you (can’t giveaway the surprise). You might notice from the photo above I switched from metal to plastic combs. Despite the fact the metal looks better, I discovered the Goody style plastic combs have a much tighter, sturdier fit.

Want to make your own? I’ve included a few tips below, but feel free to reference my previous post on DIY feather clips.
All you need is a trip to your local craft store for fun materials (like feathers) and the following supplies:
- Hot glue gun (a proof point to how impatient I am when it comes to crafts)
- Scissors and/or wire cutters depending on materials
- Hair hardware (clips, combs, pins, etc…try Fred Meyer or Target)
When rummaging through the fabric store, I suggest finding different pieces you can add together. For example, along with feathers, I found a sparkly bouquet of leaves for a dollar that I cut up and used in almost all my creations. Buttons add a lot of character too!
Here are a few other pics including an example of another way to style them:
My friend (and Clutch22 frequent commenter) Jenny DB hinted on my last post she might like some feather goodness for her birthday, so I made the green and brown clips for her.

Below is a close-up of the green…

Finally, here is one way I like to wear the comb style, all up and a little messy.

Umm…I’ll take one to wear tomorrow night! They remind me of the ones the models wore last night….oh, but you missed the fashion show didn’t you!
Sara – Haha! I saw the models and thought the same thing! One of them even had the same flower, but her’s was silver. Let me know which style you like best and I’ll make you one.
These are totally sweet! Where do you find the time?
Alix – Thanks doll! Good question about time…I don’t sleep much, but these were pretty easy to make.
I mean, if you’re offering…then, I’ll take a flower please! yay, I’m excited!
Sara – You gave me an awesome top for the giveaway! It’s the least I can do. I might not have it by tomorrow night, but will bring it next time I see you!
I love them, especially the green feather one with the charm… I may have to make this my next DIY!
Jordana- seriously i am one lucky bday girl:) thank you so much for the beautiful feather clips, I am going to wear the gold one to a wedding next weekend!!! and the menagatrois (sp>) wine was delish!!! you are such a doll. hope to see you seen:) xoxoxoxox
I love all the variations of the feather accessories! They are really fun and cute!
Fajr – Take pics if you do it! I’d love to see what you come up with!
Jenny DB – You’re welcome! Take pics of the clip in your hair.
Let me know when you want to get together!
Sweety P – Thanks so much!

You have the best diy posts. I need to find the time for some diy, I have something that would work well for this clip idea.
They are really cute, I especially like the gold flower one in your hair!
I love these Jordie. I wore my version 1 clip to a holiday celebration this weekend and got tons of compliments.
Eyeliah – Thanks for the flattering compliment! Keep me posted on your clip idea!
Angela – Thanks so much! The gold flower was the easiest of them all.
Ash – So glad you like it! I would love to see some pics of your hair if you have any.
Lovely! I’ve been on a similar kick myself, so it’s great to see how people are interpreting fantastic hair pieces.
OMG! Jordie, these are too cute! I love the green peacock ones. You are sooo craftilicous!
These look gorgeous!
Hey…Awesome idea! I’ve been trying to make something like this for my wedding but with no luck and a lot of wasted money. Do you happen to have anything extra laying around that would work for a wedding? Our colors are white and black and everything has a very vintage feel if that helps at all. Thanks for reading. Love your site BTW!
Thanks for the tutorial! I’ll be using this to make myself a hair ornament for my wedding!
