Exploring Etsy…
Lately I’ve been spending a lot of time on Etsy, especially after Holly Stalder’s gorgeous dress helped me win the IFB Dress Up contest (pictured below). There’s something about discovering unique items that aren’t available via mainstream retailers that’s really exciting. However, the discovery part can be overwhelming since there are so many shops to explore.

In an effort to help spread the word on some of my favorites, I’m going to post about Etsy designers as they catch my attention. To kick things off, I’ll start with three: Holly Stalder, I Heart Norwegian Wood and Lilian Asterfield.
Holly Stalder
Shop: hollystalder.etsy.com
Price Range: Approximately $55 – $420
Many of you might recall the white lace ruffle dress I wore to the IFB Dress Up Soiree at New York Fashion Week. It’s now available for custom orders through Holly’s shop along with several other eccentric, detailed pieces. Holly is a finalist in Etsy’s Spring Fashion Contest – go here to vote for her.

I Heart Norwegian Wood
Shop: iheartnorwegianwood.etsy.com
Price range: Approximately $35 – $115
This designer offers a wide range of accessories including harness vests, cage skirts, fringe necklaces and edgy printed tights. I’ve been contemplating a harness vest for a couple of weeks – just need to decide which color. I Heart Norwegian Wood is also featured in Etsy’s Spring Fashion Contest – vote here. Special thanks to Jennine for introducing me.

Lilian Asterfield
Shop: lilianasterfield.etsy.com
Price Range: Approximately $18 – $120
Nicole Deponte gives a whole new meaning to up-cycling with her ultra femme neckties, belts and other accessories. I have my eye on a few of the ties. Nicole was featured in DailyCandy Boston’s Sweetest Things of 2008 a few months ago. I found out about this designer through PunkyStyle.

I love Lilian Asterfield her stuff is even more wonderful in person.
Love this idea. There is so much on Etsy that sometimes its really hard to narrow down. Loving the suggestions and looking foward to more.
so great to see holly’s work! i remember her first shop on belmont street in portland way back when.
I love I Holly Stalder’s dresses. They are definitely one of a kind and unique. And I Heart Norwegian Wood has a beautiful fringe skirt that I am going to have to snatch up very soon.
Punky – I really want something by her! Just need to make a decision!
Alyssa – Thx and totally agree! I’ll try to keep ‘um coming!
piper ewan – She’s so talented! I was very pleased when I found out she was from Portland since I live in Seattle.
ClandestineChic – I haven’t seen the skirt! Please post photos if/when you get it!
I looove I Heart Norwegian Wood, ever since I saw one of the chain vests on Rumi from Fashion Toast. They are just so unique, and I’m so glad that Etsy has taken off and so many independent designers have a place to sell their stuff!
I totally agree with you that Etsy can be overwhelming. I was just on the site today, trying to feel my way around, and giving up in frustration! Thanks for sharing these. I Heart Norwegian Wood is so precious– just my style.
Ashley – I remember that chain vest! I think Michelle Yue from Chictopia has it too.
DreamSequins – Sharing makes it easier all around. Happy hunting!
I bought one of Angie’s harnesses awhile ago, I totally love it.
I am still dying for a harness!
What a great post. I love shopping on Etsy and thanks for turning me onto these shops today. The fringe necklaces from iheartnorwegianwood are great!
wow, I loved all of them! Especially lilian asterfield, such a thoughtful way of adapting grandfather’s ties.
Shay – You’re making it so easy for me…still don’t know what color, though. hmm..
Eyeliah – Do it! I could totally see it in your wardrobe!
capitolagirl – So glad you found this helpful!
Freya – It’s amazing to see old styles are being transformed, Lilian Asterfield is a perfect example.
I LOVE the white holly stadler dress you wore to NYFW…especially with the black sash !! I’m definitely going to be checking her out!! can you send me her contact info???
These are all great,
Thanks for making the search easier for us! Etsy is overwhelming at times.
Etsy is just the most amazing place. I’ll definitely be checking these sellers out x
I love Etsy & I can’t wait to return once I have more time on my hands. I love the shops you posted with their items. I’ve been looking for some pieces like these, so I’m def. going to snatch a few once more money is in the bank =X LOL.

etsy is insane, definitely enhances the life of online fashion addicts!
I am excited to add Iheartnorwegianwood and Holly Stalder to my Etsy Favorites! It can be so overwhelming to just root through all the Etsy clutter to find fantastic independent artists making items I would want to buy. I think the majority of my favorite sellers, and the majority of the etsy purchases I’ve made have been from word of mouth suggestions like these. So thank you! I just loved that dress from the Dress Up Soiree!
