Loving Ann D. Just Got Easier
Many of us have been drooling over Ann Demeulemeester lace up boots for several months now. Good news! Unlike last year’s coveted Maison Martin Margiela sandal booties, a lot of afforable designers and retailers caught on early enough this time around…perfect timing for spring and summer.

Below are a few of my favorite Ann D alternatives. I’ve been contemplating the Jeffrey Campbell style since Fashion Pirates posted a link on Twitter last month (I’ll probably cave soon). Also, you may recognize the Aldo Maune wedges from recent posts (took them to NYFW – so comfortable), which are a current favorite of mine right now.
Above from top left:
- Jeffrey Campbell Lace-Up Peep Toe, $148 – Free People
- Sweet Life by Dolce Vita Lace Heel, $128 – Urban Outfitters
- Roulette Lace-Up Sandal, $125 - Topshop
- Maune Wedge, $140 - Aldo
- Tear Drop Ankle Sandals, $22 – Forever 21
- Anastassia Leather Lace-Up Bootie, $125.99 (on sale) – Bebe
- Dolce Vita Granite Heel, $168 – Urban Outfitters
What do you think of these styles? I’d love to know your favorite or if you’ve seen others worth sharing. By the way, do these remind anyone else of wrestler shoes?

While I’m not sure if I would wear them, I find that this is one instance where I love the original most of all (though the Jeffrey Campbell pair is a favorite). I think its because the original Ann D.’s are just so much more militaristic than most of the other versions, which play up the femininity more…
These are all fabulous. I love the Jeffrey Campbell pair best (in the grey). You must get these!
Ashe – I’m with you on being drawn to the rugged style of the originals. The JC’s tempt me more and more everyday.
Jessica – Aren’t they?! I like the grey too, but already have two pairs of shoes in that color. I’m really into the nude color for some reason.
I’m loving the ones from Chloe Sevigny’s collection.

Unlike most people, I’m happy to see other designers playing up the femininity of this type of shoe. I’m just not into Ann D’s lace-ups – they make the arch of the foot look really flat and understated – but the alternatives you posted have shapes that appeal to me much more. I especially like the Roulette Lace-Up Sandal and the Anastassia Leather Lace Up Bootie.
I have also been extremely intrigued by these crazy open-toed lace-up booties! Here is a blog post that I recently about similar styles:
http://hellokel.blogspot.com/2009/03/hot-shoe-for-spring-2009-is-versatile.html. Have you come up with a name for this style?? I call it the “rocker bootie”, but I’m still not entirely satisfied with that description…
Betsey J – Nice! They’re kind of a gladiator + Ann D esque hybrid!
Jennifer Nicole – Glad you like the alternatives! Thanks for your comment!
Hello Kelli – Thanks for your link, I hadn’t seen it yet! I like rocker bootie, but I’m thinking something along the lines of “wrestler” is fitting too.
I just posted a link to your post on Hello Kelli!
I absolutely LOVE the Jeffrey Campbell’s, they are so hot! I say go for it, you should definitely spoil yourself and indulge in these shoes! A little St. Patrick’s Day gift perhaps?
i love this style of shoes and your selection of alternatives, unfortunatly these online-shops except topshop don’t ship to austria hmmm
OOOH I LOVE LOVE LOVE THE NEW LOOK ON THE SITE!!!! And, of course, the shoes. You’re amazing.
Man. These are mouthwateringly gorge. I’ve been thinking about these type of lace-up style shoes. I think they will be the “it” shoes of summer, like gladiators once were. I’m loving these in a light, almost nude color. Think they’ll do wonders to brighten up the wardrobe and do that whole lengthening the leg thing that people love.
Hello Kelli – Thanks for the link love!
Ashley – As if I need more convincing! Stay tuned…
Julia – Sad! I wish I had a solution for you! Topshop comes out with new styles all the time. I love their shoes.
Maggie – Thanks hun! You’re the best.
dream sequins – I think you’re right about this summer. It seems like the options came to retail so much faster this time! I am really drawn to the nude color too!
I always did love wrestling shoes!
I don’t know who’s copying who these days:
