Review: Current/Elliott Distressed Skinny
It’s been almost four years since I bought a pair of designer jeans in person with one exception - a pair of J Brand Lovestory jeans that Nordstrom had marked down to $90 when they were transitioning the brand from TBD to Savvy (major score). As of a little over a week ago, my streak is over…I made an impulse purchase.

My parents were visiting and my mom absolutely loves shopping at the University Village (for those not in Seattle, it’s pretty much a mega outdoor shopping mall). I dropped in Mercer to check out their denim selection and fell in love with a pair of Current Elliott distressed skinny jeans.
After spending almost an hour in the dressing room trying to prove that I was so over distressed jeans…I faced reality and headed for the sales counter. Now, about 10 days later, they’ve become a new favorite and I’ve already worn them four times.
Sizing:
For most Current Elliott jeans, you’re supposed to size down, but the 1968 Skinny runs a bit different. They were a little tight for me in the calves, so I bought a size bigger than I normally would. They also stretch about a half size. Personally, I think they totally work as a looser fitting skinny jean (best of both worlds)! I’d especially recommend these for anyone pear-shaped along with those who like the low pocket placement of William Rast, People’s Liberation and True Religion.

Pros:
- Low pocket placement tends to make your butt look smaller (Kim Kardashian has them and they look great on her!)
- The rips and paint splatter add edge to a simple look
- Longer length allows you to peg the bottoms
- The skinny style enlongates the legs
- Will carry through all seasons
- Sizing up allows you to create the slouchy look if desired (position them lower on your hips).

Cons:
- Be careful with the rips – they have a mind of their own when you bend over
- A little tight through the calves – size up if you want more room
- $200 is a lot to pay if you don’t love them (either way, try to use a coupon code)

Those are adorable! They look awesome on your frame, too. I may have to head to the U-Village to check them out…
I love the jeans, thanks for such a great review. I know my calves are a little bigger so I would have to size up too… I really do love the paint splatter.
Jennifer Nicole – Thanks! You should try them on at Mercer, but order them online at Revolve or Otte – you can save 20%, which is totally worth waiting a few days for shipping IMO.
alixrose – These would be so cute on you!! Should we add splatter to our DIY list?
Those look utterly fantastic on you!!! Definitely a smart purchase! They also are very cute on KK.
Thank you for the review and tips on where to find them with coupon codes!
I kinda want to go and artfully paint splatter some pants now…
Thanks for the heads up! I always judge my purchases as “cost per wear” and it sounds like it was worth it to buy in person!!
I typically don’t “get” buying distressed jeans, but I have to admit, that pair is HOT. Maybe it’s the general shape & wash that helps, but I kind of love them.
They look fantastic on you. I’ve been holding out on them, but you’re very convincing! Thanks for the sizing advice, too!
perfect review and they look AMAZING on you.
jesspgh – Thanks! I’m so glad you found this helpful!
shay – Me too! I’ve been thinking about it all week! Let me know if you do anything fun.
Andrea – Totally! Cost per wear is a big deal. Another factor is how we feel in them – it’s one of the reasons we’re willing to spend over $200 on a pair of jeans. Thanks so much for commenting!
Ashe Mischief – Haha, I faced the same dilemma! I kept trying on normal pairs, but couldn’t resist the distressed. Glad you approve!
JGeb – Of course! As someone who usually buys jeans online, sizing is tough. Hopefully this makes it easier if you decide to get them.
mayk – Thanks so much, doll!
Oh yesssss. I saw those jeans in the last outfit post and was wondering what brand they were! Perfection. A way to update your wardrobe without being too trendy. I’m currently searching for shredded denim, and am afraid to drop the change for something too too trendy. These are classic!
dream sequins – Thanks and I’m glad you like them! I have a feeling the shredded will be a little tired by the end of summer, so these are a great alternative!
I’ve been eyeing their boyfriend jeans. I’d love to know how those fit. I can’t believe you buy most of your jeans online. How daring! You must have the body of a fit model. I swear its always a process when I buy new jeans. But nothing feels better than getting the right pair with the right fit!
Thanks so much. Love the jeans! And, the tip!! I need a new pair of jeans especially since i’ve been working out and have toned down some. Thanks for making the search easier. And, thanks for the codes/coupons too every little bit counts.
great review – i just got myself a pair of the C/E 1968 skinny jeans in the super loved wash. love it and they’re totally my new favorite pair of skinnies now
