Green w/ Indie: SPUN + Revival Ink Exclusive
***UPDATED: Congrats to Hazel Grace for winning the SPUN beater tank!***
Though I’m preparing to make the jump from left coast to right, I want to shed some light on my favorite indie brands from the Emereld City before I go. When Sara Seumae of SPUN offered me the exclusive on a new partnership for her organic cotton eco-clothing line, I was more than honored to help get the word out.

Sara has teamed up with fellow Seattle indie greentrepreneuress Tara Smith of Revival Ink (provides eco-friendly apparel printing by hand). The collaboration involves SPUN clothing with Revival Ink’s artistic hand-printed designs and will debut this weeked at the Boutique Culture Warehouse Sale. I love the Diane Wrap dress (shown above in midnight) and have always been a big fan of unicorns. This design in paricular is a little feminine for me, but I’ll be at the show to see the rest of the line and hopefully find something a little more rough around the edges. For reference SPUN clothing is very reasonable if you’re interested in adding organic cotton to your wardrobe - tanks, tops, cardigans and dresses generally fall between $25 - $100.
Funny story - Sara and Tara coincidentally began scheming together on Twitter, which makes me love them more given social media has become such a big part of my life.
By the way, that’s my girl Fresh Jess in the pic! Isn’t she adorable? She has a great blog too, especially if you want to be in the know on all things Seattle (CRAVE parties and networking events, social media, fashion, sample sales, food, etc.), among other clever topics.
PSSST! Giveaway - Comment to Win a SPUN Beater Tank
Finally, in honor of this announcement, I’m doing a little giveaway of a SPUN beater tank (aka spanx tanks - they totally suck and lift…let’s just say boyfriends love them). Leave a comment by this Friday with one way you’re trying to be more eco-conscious. Don’t be shy, I’ve been a slow mover and am probably far behind most of you.

I have to say, my heart is pounding seeing that dress. I need Miss Sara to really hop on plus-sized pieces because my heart will break without one of those!
August 26th, 2009 8:23 am
Love that dress!
I already ride my bike or bus to work rather than drive, but recently I have started to attempt to buy nothing new - reuse what I have or buy it used.
August 26th, 2009 8:41 am
Ashe - Have you tried the Diane Wrap? It allows more flexibility in certain “areas.”
I’ll let Sara respond though, since she’s the expert!
Mrs. M in MI - Glad you love! Thanks for entering and for sharing what you’ve been doing!

I love this! Thanks for posting the Spun Web site - I’m always on the hunt for great, organic clothes

Great stuff Jordana!
I’ll only buy a bottle of water every few weeks or so and refill & reuse when I workout. Also just traded my 98 Explorer clunker in for a cap with better mileage:)

oh wow, that print is gorgeous and the price is right too!
August 26th, 2009 12:44 pm
What a cute print, I agree it’s a bit too girly for me as well but I can think of a million friends of mine who would love it. It’s a great wrap dress, It would look great on almost any body type. Organic cotton is just so soft and makes you feel better about purchasing something new.

That dress is SO cute! Is the collaboration going to be available online?
I’ve started riding my bike for transportation when Matt’s at work (since my car isn’t working right now, we’ve only got one between the two of us). So I ride it down to the mailbox, post office, library…etc. I’m not sure if it counts as “green” since it was kind of a necessity…but there you have it
We’ve also been trying to cut back on our electric bill…always turning off lights and such.

Jess looks amazing.
I really like the collaboration and can’t wait to see these ladies at the BC warehouse sale!!
August 26th, 2009 2:10 pm
LOVE the dress… I’ve been coveting SPUN clothing for a few months now. : ) I just need to break down and actually BUY something… I really do need a new dress. Hmm…
Two things I have done recently to become more eco-conscious: make sure ALL bills are paperless. No getting email and via snail mail. Just realized you could do that with Seattle City Light! And second, I really make a concerted effort to put food scraps in the compost bin instead of sending them down the garbage disposal. Just remind me to take them out soon before the fruit fly brigade carries me off. : )
Lovely post, love following you on twitter!

Wow that tank is great! I have such a hard time finding tanks with the extra length. They are always a bit on the short side, but that is awesome. Totally going to mark it. Thanks for the awesome giveaway!
August 26th, 2009 2:28 pm
i definitely have cut back on my bottled water, and now try and drink tap water (cuts down on the carbon footprint!)…i do live in a place where the tap water is very good and very safe though.
August 26th, 2009 2:28 pm
Super Cute Jess! If all else fails you could definitely try out for ANTM!
August 26th, 2009 2:35 pm
Thanks so much for the love Jordana! I am very excited about this collaboration with Tara and can’t wait to officially launch it at the BC warehouse sale this weekend. Tara and I will be booth neighbors so we can meet everyone who comes out! Can’t wait to hear more about how folks are being more eco-consious and to find out who the winner of the SPUN tank top is going to be! xoxo

I’m super eco-conscious… it’s always been a way of life for me. However, I find myself still buying bottled water - the icky plastic kind - when I go running. While I’m perfectly aware that it’s terrible for the planet and bad for me I keep doing it anyway. It’s my ongoing eco-sin battle :-/ As a way to be more eco-friendly, I’m going to try to quit it and start actually using my re-usable bottle.
August 26th, 2009 3:16 pm
love this- so comfy, yet fantastical and subtly sexy.
now let me see… i never buy bottled water (unless annoyingly necessary, such as @ the airport, etc.), always bring canvas bags when shopping, i obsessively recycle, make sure to carpool, i could go on…
thanks for the giveaway!
xoxo

I need another one of those beater tanks - they are by far the best tank out there!! That dress is adorable, can’t wait to see it up close and personal at the boutique Warehouse Sale this weekend.
FYI, I re-posted Tara’s info about this and directed people here. (http://blog.seattlepi.com/urbanfashionnetwork/) - Hope that is cool.

My boyfriend and I both purchased re-usable SIGG water-bottles and use those whenever we go out and even around the house. We have also bought re-usable shopping bags. One other thing is that my friends and i have been doing clothes exchanges instead of going out and shopping for new things and donating what no one wants to Goodwill. Just trying to think of things to help be eco-conscious brings up many great ideas that so many people are willing to go with. It really is easy when you try we have found.
August 26th, 2009 6:10 pm
oh my! is that a pegasus! on a comfy eco-lovely wrap dress? SOLD.
August 26th, 2009 6:12 pm
I recently bought some re-usable swiffer pads off etsy and am planning on getting some reusable dryer sheets in the form of organic cotton packets filled with lavender - yum!
August 26th, 2009 9:01 pm
I’ve been riding my bike, the bus, the train, or walking and cutting out driving completely.
Also - I think that dress is too cute to handle!
August 26th, 2009 10:15 pm
Great post. I like the dress. Man, I need to be more eco friendly!! xxTay
August 27th, 2009 5:17 am
I’ll play! The wifey loves tops like that (and, naturally, so do I :)) I’ve been walking more and consciously cutting back on water usage. Not he most original Eco lovin, but it still works!
August 27th, 2009 10:30 am

Well I just moved out of NYC (crazy i know!), where walking and public transportation helped me keep my carbon footprint down. But now i have a car again! so inorder to offset it, i traded in my jeep for a more feul efficient car. I bought a bike (and made my bf get one too), and am taking advantage of how much easier it is to recycle when not in NYC and i am recycling, recycling, recycling!

My husband and I live car free in Seattle. We get around by bike and on foot, with the occasional Zipcar when we need to get out of the city. It was a difficult adjustment at first, but after 2.5 years, I don’t miss owning a car!
