Raw Footage: G-Star Raw Runway @ NYFW
I’ve had the opportunity to attend amazing shows so far at New York Fashion Week, but the one that took me the most by surprise has been the G Star Raw show that took place tonight at the Hammerstein Ballroom. When Jennine from The Coveted told me it was one “not to miss,” I knew I had to make it work (have missed some shows due to conflicting priorities).
Here’s the full video of the runway presentation (13 minutes, but couldn’t allow myself to cut everything..especially the finale..fireworks!). Our seats were fantastic! I don’t think I’ve ever felt so giddy following a show. It really does make a difference to experience a collection up close and personal. Thanks to Kim Bakker from G Star for taking such good care of us!
The Collection
For women the brand presented a feminine yet powerful and self assured look with elegant dresses, luxury beachwear such as high-waisted bathing suits and hotpants. Key pieces for men were the cropped chino’s and modern classic broad shouldered jackets. The extremely low loose NY Raw Structor Pant that was the base of many looks, male and female, is the latest addition to the ongoing line of 3-D jeans silhouettes that started in 1996 with the G-Star Elwood. Paper pattern garments created with ‘moulage’ technique were another example of the denim craftsmanship G-Star is known for.

The Runway Show
The G-Star show played with silhouettes of models that emerged from five moving cylinders with an intense mix of music enabling the models to walk at a different paces throughout. A remix of the David Bowie song ‘Rebel Rebel’ accompanied a choreographed finale in true G-Star style (make sure you watch that part on the video) – best finale I’ve ever seen! The detail on some of the denim pieces had silk lining and it seemed obvious that a ton of handstitching was involved. I was really fascinated with the grommet detail holding the fabrics together.

Front Row
I’m so terrible at recognizing “important” faces, but G-Star’s PR followed up to let me know the front row consisted of Juliette Lewis, Lindsay Lohan, Taylor Momsen, Ryan Kwanten (aka Jason Stackhouse from TrueBlood – love that show), Jared Leto, Elettra Wiedemann, Mena Suvari, Alan Cumming, Kara DioGuardi, Christian Siriano, Cat Deeley, Kat von D, Katrina Bowden, Ryan Adams, Corbin Bleu, Frederique van der Wal, Matthew Settle, Damien Fahey, Eric Balfour, Peaches Geldof, Asher Books, Walter Perez, Miss J. Alexander, Byrdie Bell, Yfke Sturm and Tyson Beckford.

SO tight! I want to go to some shows with you!!! I’ve been thinking about NYC FW & how awesome it is that you’re experiencing it all AGAIN.
