Clutch Look: Craving Structure & Lace
As I’m wrapping up the rest of my New York Fashion Week coverage with pretty bows, I wanted to share a quick outfit post to keep things flowing. I got to spend time with Geri from Because I’m Addicted during fashion week and was completely inspired by a vintage lace blazer she sported with shoulder pads! Talk about modernizing the 80′s, this girl knows how to find amazing pieces!

Without knowing exactly where to look to find something to fulfill the shoulder pad craving, I decided to go to Topshop. Lookey what I found…

I actually love this outfit so much, I wore it today to the Starbucks VIA media lunch at Craftbar, which makes two wears in the last two weeks! For those thinking, “GASP, oh no she didn’t,” calm down – it was around different groups and you KNOW you’ve done it too!
Here’s another pic that shows the blend of textures in a better light:

Wearing…
- Lace top: Topshop, $60
- Dress: H&M, $45 (got in NYC last spring)
- Thigh high boots: Jeffrey Campbell, $140 (LOVE, but the soul started falling apart after two wears)
- Knuckle ring: Made Her Think, $110 (bought last winter)
Shoulder pads definitely aren’t for everyone, but I think just about anyone can pull it off to some extent. If you have broad shoulders and want to try the look, try to find something with smaller shoulder pads that sit more on top of your shoulders, rather than out the sides. I’m a little hooked on this right now and given I’ve been drooling over structured pieces on the runways for the past year, I’m guessing you’ll see more shoulder pads appearing in Clutch 22 outfits.

Geri – Yes, please keep me posted if you see cool vintage! You’re awesome! I’m embarrassed of how I dressed during nyfw…got to the point where I stopped caring.
WendyB – Thx sweets! Can’t wait to see what’s new from Francis and finally choose a piece!
Jess – You’re a delight! Glad you approve. I’m SO bummed about the boots but am hoping to repair them. Miss you too!
I was telling my Aunt about how shoulder pads are coming back in and she says she is thrilled – that one of her friend’s has been trying to talk her OUT of them since the early nineties. She’s excited to be back in fashion XO. I love this look and the layering of all the different black on black – you look hot so turn that frown upside down! Miss you XO
Love that top!! I keep telling people shoulder pads are where its at, haha my husband just keeps calling me grandma when I wear something with them. He’ll learn to love it! Anyways, You look fabulous! I have drooled over your boots since I saw you wearing them at the IFB Soiree.

Soooooo cute! I love it! I love the different looks you have paired those boots with. Don’t wear them two days in a row or I’ll tell Rickey!
I miss you tons. I have been HATING my wardrobe and NEEEEEEED your help and inspiration! I guess this will do…
you look fantastic! it’s such a great look!
You look great! I love how the outfit is monochromatic, but not boring.
Can’t believe the soles come off after two wears – eesh. Hope you can get ‘em repaired alright!
Lace is definitely a big trend for Fall! So sweet! And OMG I can’t believe those boots were only $140. So awesome looking! I just bought over the knee spats… but I’m going to have to splurge on a pair of boots. I’m totally caving into the trend. Eek
I love that lace top over the dress. You pull off the structured shoulder look quite well!
I love lace, it’s a very cute look, especially paired with the leggings and the boots!
I love this outfit so much, it inspired me to finally buy a pair of over-the-knee black boots I’ve been considering. So cute! Thanks for the push
