A “Stormy” DIY Halloween
I had no plans to dress up for Halloween this year until suddenly the five o’clock hour hit on Friday night, which somehow triggered an impulsive change of heart (especially after hearing coworkers talking about how festive the city gets down in Union Square around the parade). Last year for Halloween, I planned out DIY Three Little Pigs costumes with my good friends Lindsay and Maggie over a month in advance and it still came together at the last minute. Have you ever tried walking into a Halloween store the evening of October 30? It’s worse than Christmas Eve shopping! Long story short, I found a white wig and decided to attempt creating a Storm X-Men costume from my wardrobe.

The craftiest part? I made my cape out of a sash belt pulled through the sleeves of an American Apparel t-shirt dress! I couldn’t believe it worked. Actually, I’m not sure it did for some cases considering several people thought I was dressed as Lady Gaga – I could see the similarities, so it didn’t bother me. At least I was able to pull something together super fast and on a budget.
Wearing:
- Sequin bustier: Bebe
- Latex leggings: American Apparel
- Thigh-high boots: Jeffrey Campbell
- Belt: Macy’s (five years old)
- Arm cuffs: Leftover from a work event (gladiator themed)
- Cape: American Apparel t-shirt dress with sash belt from Nordstrom
- Ring: Made Her Think
If only I had Storm’s weather-controlling super powers to stop the rain…

Did you dress up this year? Feel free to share how you styled your Halloween looks!

I love the costume! You look just like storm and it’s a great way to use things you already own, like liquid leggings and otk boots!
What a fantastic last minute outfit!
I think a lot of people decided to dress as Lady Gaga this year, so I guess that was on people’s minds more that Storm from X-Men. Hey, 2 costumes in one though, that’s not bad…

You are so my costume hero. That’s awesome. I <3 Storm (in a real geeky comic book way – and NOT a movie sort of way)
