Vivienne Tam Monster Cable Lux Ear Buds
Last Thursday I attended a breakfast at Vivienne Tam’s store in Soho where I got to see the unveiling of her special edition Butterfly in-ear speakers by Monster Cable. Aside from the fact that Vivienne is expanding her fashionable tech empire, it’s really exciting to see a new category of gadget catering to a style craving female audience.

The Butterfly headphones will be available this April for approximately $199. I know, as someone who has never spent more than $20 on ear buds, it might be a little tough to swallow at first. Here’s the thing - until now, I didn’t even know what I was missing. Crystal from Monster Cable gave me a demo with some Lady Gaga on her iPod and I was instantly sold. The buds come with multiple sizes and the tips are foam that expand once you put them in. On top of that, I didn’t know portable sound could be so awesome – I could feel the beats and bass. I’ve bought at least 6 pairs of headphones in the past two years…they constantly break, one ear stops working, etc. Quality sound has never even been a consideration for me!
Here’s the official “unveiling” with Monster Cable CEO Noel Lee and the lovely Vivienne.
Vivienne described the design process of wanting to create something that felt like jewelry you’d want to wear. Similarly, when designing the Butterfly Lovers HP digital clutch (and the Peoni last year), she really thought about how it could be appealing as an accessory. This woman is brilliant! The Butterfly Lovers HP digital clutch will be out in the next few months…excited to try it out. Stay tuned!
VERDICT
Yes ladies, luxury and headphones have never been used in the same sentence for us, but these are worth checking out. The trade-off for the $199 price tag is worth it, especially if you want to add comfort, style and quality sound to your mobile music experiences.

Really interesting concept. I’m not a big spender on earphones either- I smiled when you said one ear stops working- have ones now like that at work and I try to ignore it! Love the butterfly theme too- classic yet feminine!
Very cool. I also go through ear buds like nobody’s business and have thought of upgrading but haven’t bit the bullet yet. Maybe I will check these out… (and I love the mini HP design as well)
They’re super pretty but not $200 pretty. Though I may have spent more than $60 in jewelry once ever before, so I may not be the best judge. Though if they’re noise canceling and super high quality… maybe!
Sounds interesting. I’m not a tech person but this sounds like it’s worth checking out!
I prefer the previous edition. The red with floral pattern.
Nice Headphones……..I really love them!!!!!!!But its too expensive……
They are slightly expensive, but they look like they are worth the money.
