PostHeaderIcon Denim Review: Hudson Jeans Stretch Skinny

Next to bikini shopping, jeans have to be one of the most tricky pieces of clothing to purchase. It doesn’t matter what shape you are, everyone has insecurities they want to flatter and other features they want to accentuate. If you’ve been following Clutch22 for awhile, you might be familiar with my obsession for denim (here’s one example). A couple of months ago, Hudson Jeans sent me their new Kent 5-Pocket Stretch Skinny and they have quickly become a staple in my wardrobe.

To Assume Makes an Ass of U + Me

Though I’ve been following Hudson for awhile, I didn’t purchase my first pair until last December. I’m a pear-shaped girl and assumed that since my long-skinny-legged, little butt friends (you know who you are Ashley, Shelby, Linds) loved the brand; they would never fit me quite right. I was wrong. Ultimately, Hudson won my heart with pocket-placement perfection. If you don’t have a butt, the pockets will be a little higher, which gives the illusion of a little roundness. If you do have a built-in-cushioned-seat, like me, the pockets will come a little lower, essentially minimizing the appearance.

Styling…

With jeans, I usually style based on the wash as opposed to the style. I love wearing this style with pumps/wedges, a tee and fun accessories. Also, as mentioned above, I usually roll the bottoms and below I scrunched them up a little to give a cropped look. I’m not typically a fan of skinnies and flats, but I wear these with my Vans all the time (cropped like the below).

Wearing:

The Fit…

I normally wear a 26 in denim, which is what I got in the skinny stretch. They do give a little, so if you like your jeans ultra tight, you might want to go down a size. The area that had the most flexibility for me what the waist, which is pretty important if you don’t want to cupcake out the sides of your pants. Another perk? They aren’t super tight, skin-hugging skinny jeans. They have more room in the calves than other brands I’ve tried, which is appreciated.

As for the inseam, I’m 5’5″ and usually roll the bottoms because they are a little long for me, but good news if you’re gifted…err…tall! I’m thinking about getting them hemmed into an ankle jean.

The Wash…

Color is an important decision in jean shopping that often gets overlooked. A wash that fades to lighter in the center is good for elongating the legs, giving a slimmer appearance. It’s pretty hard to find a lighter wash that does this effectively, but Hudson has found a way with the Shirley wash. I’m also a huge fan of the Blue Boar and Elm washes from Hudson, but I don’t think they are available in this particular style.

Where to Buy?

The price is around $176 and they are currently available at Revolve Clothing. I haven’t seen these in stores yet, but your best bet is probably Nordstrom. Shopbop has the version with the Hudson signature flap pocket if that’s more your style.

Do you have a pair of Hudson Jeans? What do you think?

I love Hudsons! I always but the smallest size I can fit into because after a few wash and wears that stretch and mold to your body. They are the best butt jeans!

  • BIRDIE says:

Hmmmmmm! You’re a 26? We’re about the same height/build… I think I should start looking for a pair of these myself!

Hudson’s are one of my favorite! They are perfect for every day wear…

  • Seriously I have your body type and need these jeans! I’m always at a loss about what brand to get!

p.s. Oh that’s so funny! I meant to catch up with Amy a few weeks ago but had no time in NYC. Perhaps next time we can all have some drinks/snacks somewhere! Though I’m not coming back to NYC for a while. :(

  • I love your style! Seriously, if I had to choose ONE best dressed fashion blogger out there, you would take it.

I thought those wedges were cute the first time I saw them, but they are so much better looking on, especially the way you styled them. (I am also extremely jealous of your skinny ankles!)

this might sound weird but they make your ass look good, which is always a nice thing, no? :D i haven’t bought jeans in a few years and haven’t worn mine in about… about… well, months. i do love my denim skirts though. i think i’ve put on so much weight from stress, all the weight is going to my bottom and finding jeans to fit that and my waist is just not the funnest thing. having a different body type might have made this process much easier.

having said that, i do realize how a lot of my clothes might go with jeans, and this has sparked in interest in me to go look for jeans again!! i’ll look out for hudson’s…. are they soft? heh.

  • I love this review! I LOVE Hudson’s. I have a pair with the flap pocket that I got about 2 years ago that I bought when I was “skinny” and I finally just lost a bit of weight and can wear them again! They have the best frayed ends, and are worn in perfectly. They are my favorite jeans, and I definitely have a butt!!

Hudson is my brand of choice when it comes to jeans. I am a size 8 or size 30 but I used to be a size 12 or size 32. Even after losing two sizes, Hudsons still fit me better than any other brand. I love the fit, the design, and the flap pockets. I carry my weight in my hips and thighs so trying on denim is absolute torture. I can always depend on Hudsons to come through for me though.

    You look fab in them!

  • Sara says:

I LOVE my Hudson jeans! I was originally worried about how my butt would look since the back pockets have buttons. But I had nothing to worry about because just like your pics above…my butt looks AMAZING in my Hudson’s! ;)

  • Sara says:

p.s. I love your SPUN organic shirt! xoxo

  • The rush that comes after trying on a successful pair of jeans should be bottled and sold! Roll up the cuff and pair with a strappy pair of gladiator wedges or TOMS canvas flats. So great!

  • iamronel says:
