PostHeaderIcon Hunting for the Shoe Woo Woomobile!

Just got word that Shoe Woo, a fabuolous shoe store that just opened its newest location in Manhattan (59th and Lex), is going full force with a real-life giveaway campaign driven through social media. The marketing geek in me is super excited about this.

PostHeaderIcon The Monokini That Changed My Mind

I keep seeing and hearing about the “monokini” or “trikini” trend. It certainly isn’t new this season, but I’ve recently been feeling a strange force toward trying them on, similar to what happens when I’m drawn to odd, sometimes even ugly, shoes. On top of that, I’ve been living under the “rule” I’m supposed to wear solid colors to minimize attention to areas I’m insecure about…aka, my butt.

Christina Silva of Tininha, a beach/swimwear boutique in Fremont, helped give me the confidence to try on the Under the Sea monokini by OndadeMar, even though I was almost certain it would be a disaster. She’s from Brazil, aka bikini paradise, and totally knows her stuff when it comes to swimwear and body types. After coaxing me out of the dressing room and having me do a few embarrassing twirls, I realized it fit me perfectly and had to have it.

PostHeaderIcon Video: Nordstrom Price Match Part II

After posting my undercover price match video from Nordstrom last week, Grechen from Grechen’s Closet passed along an even bigger discount for the shoes used in my experiment, playfully suggesting a sequel. She didn’t need to ask me twice! If you haven’t seen the first video, you can check it out here.

I didn’t feel as bashful or sneaky heading this time around because I was pretty sure of what the outcome would be. That and the sales associates brought their A-game in customer service. You’d think with the half yearly sale chaos, employees would appear to be more stressed, but they were more friendly than ever – gotta love that.

Total Savings?

To refresh, the Dolce Vita Carter shoes were originally marked $99.95 at Nordstrom. In the first price-match, Nordstrom discounted us the difference between Shoes.com’s 20% off of 109.95 (their price for the same shoe) and we ended up paying $89 before tax; saving about $10.

PostHeaderIcon Clutch Look: If This Dress Could Talk

Summer is quickly approaching and though Seattle weather may not be on the same page, I’ve been slowly vamping up my wardrobe. Here’s a new spring and summer look that requires minimal accessories – the dress has a ton of personality and if it could talk, it’d ask to be worn with these a-m-a-z-i-n-g shoes!

If you’ve been reading my posts lately, it’s clear I’ve been on a major shoe kick (no pun intended). What I love most about these Report Signature shoes is the way they elongate the legs by showing more skin and falling just below the ankle. On top of that, the buckles are adjustable! They are actually on sale right now at Zappos for around $154 from $215.

PostHeaderIcon Hanky Panky + Essie Polish Collaboration

Fellow Hanky Panky addicts - our favorite underwear brand has teamed up with Essie on a new gift set. For $36 you get two pair of Hanky Panky thongs and a matching nail polish. Given the thongs alone would add up to $36, you basically get the polish for free. You can buy them at Bare Necessities where you can enter code: WACOALFS for free shipping.

These sets would also make great gifts for birthdays, bridal showers, bridesmaids and thank yous, among other girly occassions. If you want to spend more than $36, add a mani/pedi or a spa gift certificate to the package.

PostHeaderIcon Video: Negotiating a Price Match

Last week I wrote about a number of shoe styles that fell into the $100 to $300 price range. In doing so, I asked you to submit the shoes you’re currently contemplating so I could choose one for an experiment in this post. Sara commented she’s been on the fence about these dv by Dolce Vita pumps that she recently tried on at Nordstrom. I tracked them down at Shoes.com with 20% off code and decided to see if Nordstrom would match the offer…and guess what? I got the whole thing on video!

Needless to say, Nordstrom completely lived up to their name by honoring the price. Here’s a pic of the shoe for reference followed by tips and tricks for trying this for yourself!

PostHeaderIcon Because a Girl’s Gotta Have Options…

After receiving so many lovely comments on my recent post about shoes making the outfit, I felt inspired to dive a little deeper into the topic.

omgshoes.jpg

For starters, I want to share some of my favorite sandals, pumps and wedges for spring and summer.  Most fall within the $100 to $200 range, with a few closer to $250. Though you can totally find lower cost options, I’ve learned my lesson from going the cheap route…and my poor feet have too. I also have a juicy post in the works about strategic shoe shopping in this price range.

PostHeaderIcon Clutch Look: Shoes Make the Outfit

If you saw my recent post about the New York T-Mobile Sidekick event, you may have noticed the mint green Pour La Victoire Paige sandals I wore. At over $250, there’s no way I would have purchased them without factoring them into everyday looks.

To show why funky shoes are a good investment in my book, here is a simple black, white and denim look that would probably otherwise be boring if not for the touch of the green shoes. Read the rest of this entry »

PostHeaderIcon NYC Haul: Only 60 Minutes to Shop

Ideally, I would have had at least a full day to shop in NYC, but what’s a working girl to do? I had to make the most out of 60 minutes on the corner of 5th Avenue and 42nd Street - Zara and H&M. Surprisingly, I flew home feeling completely satisfied.

The Goods…
